Au Nord du Beffroi – North of the belfry

“Ding Dong”

Dans la ruelle des Arbalétriers de Douai (Nord – France), les oiseaux concurrencent par leurs chants les cloches du beffroi de la ville. Et en s’approchant du monument emblématique, les mélodies du carillonneur prennent toute leur importance. La musique, que les habitants entendent sans parfois l’écouter, prend de nouvelles tournures, plusieurs strates, selon les endroits de la ville.

Cette création répondait à l’appel à projets “Comme un dimanche matin” du collectif Espaces Sonores. Un grand merci à Stéphane Marin.

In the small alley named “Ruelle des Arbalétriers” in Douai (north of France), birds are competing with their singing against the bells of the belfry of the city. When approaching the emblematic monument, the carillonneur’s melodies sound more and more prominent. The music, which people are sometimes used to hear without really listening, takes new melodic lines, several strata, according to the different places of the city.
